Rules Filed to Clarify Pharmacists' Responsibilities in Filling Prescriptions

A rule clarifying the professional responsibilities of pharmacists and pharmacies in dispensing and delivering valid, legal prescriptions has been filed by the Board of Pharmacy.

The proposed rules are intended to set clear expectations for pharmacists and pharmacies to assure that patients have access to safe and appropriate medications in a timely manner by eliminating barriers to access.

A public hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m., March 29, at the Renton Community Center, 1715 Maple Valley Hwy. Public testimony will be accepted at the hearing. The time allotted to each speaker may be limited by the board based on the number of people who want to testify.

Comments can be posted electronically on the agency Rules Comment Web page . Comments can also be sent to Doreen Beebe, Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy, P.O. Box 47863, Olympia WA 98504-7863 or faxed to 360-586-4359. The board will accept written comments until March 23.
