Do you know the truth about cellulite? Are you confused by all of the misinformation and myths that surrounds what causes puckered and dimpled skin and how you can get rid of your cellulite? In a recent episode of The Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Oz busts those myths and reveals tips that work, plus the two must have ingredients to look for when you buy cellulite removing cream.

“Today! The biggest cellulite myths busted. Now there seems to be a lot of misinformation on this topic, so I am going to smooth it all out. You believe that you are stuck with cellulite― that you can’t get rid of it? Well, you can squash that thought because it’s a myth. You think that it only happens because you are out shape? You can crush that too—it’s also a myth!” says Dr. Oz as he tells the viewer how to get rid of your cellulite with these tips.

Here are a few methods women try to take the dimple out of their butt and thigh regions:

• Vacuuming over the puckered skin

• Rubbing citrus fruit into the skin

• Taking a mud bath infused with electrolytes

• Taking a seaweed bath

• Rubbing apple cider vinegar on the skin

According to Dr. Oz, all of these methods are nothing more than myths that have no scientific backing to them. But where there are myths, there is truth also. One truth that many heavier women do not know about is that even skinny women can have cellulite too.

“The truth is that skinny women have cellulite for a reason. They actually have the same exact anatomy that heavier women have,” says Dr. Oz who explains to viewers that beneath the layers of your skin is a fibrous net of tissue that holds the fat in place beneath the skin. This netting is what keeps skin looking smooth. However, as we age, undergo hormonal changes, and even based on our individual genetics, that fibrous netting begins to weaken and break resulting in fat cells that begin to bulge up against the overlying layers of skin producing the bumpy, puckered, dimpled skin we all know as cellulite.

“Those little lumps and bumps will remain unless you strengthen those fibers,” says Dr. Oz.

Cellulite Removing Tips

So, how can you strengthen those fibers and make the cellulite go away? Not by exercising Dr. Oz tells his viewers. Exercising only helps the muscle below the skin and fat, it does not make cellulite go away. To help you make your skin go from bumpy to smooth again, Dr. Oz offers these following tips:

Cellulite tip #1—Rehydrate your body with fiber strengthening food

Dr. Oz tells viewers that rehydrating your body with wet foods filled with nutrition such as strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe and cucumbers is a great way to help smoothen skin.

“All of these have the water you need for the collagen and they have the nutrients you need to rebuild that area to flatten it out,” says Dr. Oz.

Cellulite tip #2—Use skin creams with these two ingredients

One myth shared by many who have tried everything on the market to get rid of unwanted cellulite, is that nothing works. However, Dr. Oz points out that the truth is that there are products that can work--if they have the right ingredients.

“I believe that many of these products don’t work because they don’t have the two ingredients that we know scientifically can make a difference,” says Dr. Oz as he reveals that the two most important ingredients to look for in any cellulite fighting product are caffeine and retinol.

In fact, a previous Dr. Oz Show special guest―Dermatologist Heidi Waldorf, MD―discusses her related combo cream recommendation for treating her patients’ cellulite problems.

“These will do unique things to help strengthen those fibers. They also actually help shrink some of those fat cells,” says Dr. Oz. “If you can get these creams with the nutrients they have on top of your skin, it will take you where you want to go with regard to cellulite.”

Dr. Oz recommends choosing skin creams that contain 0.4% retinol, and to be sure to apply it to the problem areas 3 times a day. You should see noticeable results in just 10 days.

Cellulite tip #3—Brush away those bumps

One of the most costly myths behind getting rid of cellulite is that only the expensive treatments from a doctor’s office such as wraps, lipo-laser, fat suctioning, etc. will work toward getting rid of cellulite.

“It’s a myth,” says Dr. Ox who explains that one technique some doctors like to sell at hundreds of dollars per session is a vacuuming massage method that stimulates the collagen and encourages lymphatic drainage. While the method does work, Dr. Oz tells viewers that you can achieve the same results using only a $20 dry brush.

Dr. Oz tells viewers that the trick is to start at the lower part of your leg and thigh and work the dry brush in an upward circular motion. This action will not only achieve what the much more expensive method does, but will also exfoliate dead skin cells to make your skin look even better.
