Natural Weight Loss Supplement Curbs Appetite Study Says

Eating all-natural food is a great way to lose weight. But did you know that some supplements are all-natural as well and can make weight loss easier by curbing your appetite? Here is what some researchers found when testing a potential weight loss appetite suppressant that is both safe and natural to take.


Researchers have discovered that eating a special kind of fat may be the next best supplement for weight loss. This fat was isolated from natural oats that researchers found not only takes longer to digest, but increases levels of satiety hormones making test subjects fell fuller longer. Eating fat to lose fat is not an unusual weight loss measure, as reported by Dr. Oz for fighting belly fat.

A news release from Lund University tells us that scientists have found a way to extract oat oil from natural oats that consists primarily of a compound referred to as “polar fats.” Unlike saturated fats that can be stored in the body as an energy reserve (and excess weight), polar fats are a special type of fat that helps build cell membranes and act as chemical signaling substances.

One of the properties of polar fats that make it so useful is that unlike processed fats that are digested very rapidly and wind up absorbed into our blood and stored as body fat, polar fats are believed to delay the breakdown of fat and/or its uptake in the gut.

And better yet, polar fats from oats were recently discovered to lead to the release of three different satiety hormones, PYY, GLP-1 and CCK, that previous studies have shown can make us feel fuller and eat less.

To test the effect of eating oat oil on appetite suppression, two related studies involved feeding 34 healthy individuals different quantities of an oat oil preparation as part of their normal breakfast. As a control, some were given yogurt rather than oat oil as a placebo to determine whether the oat oil really has an effect.

What the researchers found was that the levels of the satiety hormones PYY, GLP-1 and CCK in the intestines rose more in the test subjects who ate the oat oil preparation than those who were given the yogurt placebo.

An increase in these satiety hormones helps suppress appetite by signaling the brain telling it that our bodies are full after eating. The longer the hormones are present, the less hungry you will feel as the day goes on until it is time for your next meal.

The authors of the study tell us that our sensitivity to normal levels of satiety hormones gets out of whack when we eat too much processed food and concluded that eating oat oil could be an effective dietary supplement that supports reduced energy intake in a healthy way.

“If we constantly eat high-energy food, our satiety signals become dulled. However, various supplements can influence metabolism or reinforce our satiety signals. Several previous studies have shown that higher levels of satiety hormones are linked to satiety and lower energy intake. I believe that the oat oil preparation that we have tested has what is needed to keep you feeling fuller for longer and therefore makes it easier to refrain from overeating,” states the study’s lead author, Lena Ohlsson.
