Lose Your Belly Fat with Dr. Oz's Top Belly Fat Fighters
Are you having problems with the “Battle of the Bulge”? Does belly fat get in the way of simple tasks like tying your shoe laces or getting into last year’s jeans? Well don’t switch to loafers or throw out those old jeans just yet as Dr. Oz shows you how to lose your belly fat with his top belly fat fighters.
“All week, we are overhauling your body from head to toe,” says Dr. Oz as he introduces viewers to this week’s all new episodes that are part of his “Dr. Oz’s Ultimate Detox Cleanse Week―Overhaul Your Body” series of health segments.
Belly Fat Fighter #1: Hot Pepper Jelly
“If you want to burn away that belly and do it fast, you have to rev up your metabolism,” says Dr. Oz as he recommends eating hot pepper jelly. “This stuff is a brand new way to ignite your metabolism,” he says explaining that approximately 30 minutes after eating hot pepper jelly that your metabolism will be raised “…by a whopping 20 percent.”
Dr. Oz recommends taking 2 tablespoons of hot pepper jelly every morning with your English muffin or on your scrambled eggs.
Belly Fat Fighter #2: Catechin & CLA
“You can’t get rid of the number of fat cells you have, but what you can do is shrink those fat cells,” says Dr. Oz as he recommends taking catechins and CLA daily for fighting belly fat.
Catechins are a scientifically studied component of green tea that has been shown to control blood sugar levels and lipid absorption in the digestive tract. To ensure that you get a good dose of catechins, Dr. Oz recommends seeping the green tea for 20 minutes followed by drinking the tea while it is still warm. With your two cups of green tea daily, he also advises viewers to take 3,400 milligrams of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) supplement with each cup of tea.
“CLA helps your fat cells relax so that they can let go of the fat that is in them,” says Dr. Oz explaining that the green tea helps this process giving your belly fat cells “a one-two punch” to blast your belly fat away and shrink those fat cells.
Belly Fat Fighter #3: Acacia Powder
Dr. Oz’s third belly fat fighter has to do with curbing your hunger. “A lot of folks with big bellies are always saying that they are hungry all the time,” says Dr. Oz. To cut down on their cravings, Dr. Oz recommends taking a natural appetite suppressant called “Acacia powder.”
Dr. Oz explains that Acacia powder comes from the bark of the Acacia tree. “This is a diet pill without chemicals. This is the single most important thing that you are going to take away from this show,” says Dr. Oz as he explains that the power behind Acacia powder is that it is full of fiber that swells in your stomach and gives you a feeling of fullness that will curb your hunger.
Acacia powder can be sprinkled over your meals such as salads and soups. Dr. Oz tells viewers that the only condition with taking Acacia powder is that it needs to be taken with a full glass of water during your meal to ensure you are getting enough liquid to help the Acacia fibers expand and do their hunger-curbing job.
Belly Fat Fighter #4: Snack on Pickles
According to Dr. Oz, one way to fight belly fat is by detoxing your digestive system. His recommendation is to snack on low-sodium pickles or other foods such as fermented sauerkraut or kimchee because they all have the type of bacteria that can detox your digestive tract by fighting inflammation that is one of the causes of belly fat.
Belly Fat Fighter #5: Red Wine
“When you feel stressed, your body releases cortisol. And cortisol is that stress hormone that is supposed to be released when you feel pressure,” says Dr. Oz as he explains that cortisol causes our body to store away energy, that all too often accumulates as fat around the middle—belly fat.
One way to control raised cortisol levels is to drink a glass of red wine recommends Dr. Oz. However, no more than one glass (4 ounces) a day or you can actually contribute to your belly fat from added sugars in the wine.
Belly Fat Fighter #6: Wet Foods
“If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times—‘I’m so bloated I feel like I’m pregnant,’” says Dr. Oz as he tells viewers that bloating is one of the chief complaints of patients with belly fat issues. To combat feelings of bloating Dr. Oz has a special guest Registered Dietician Ashley Koff who tells viewers that eating “wet foods” can beat the bloat.
“Wet foods have two key characteristics: they have a high water volume and they are also a good source of fiber—that combination together works good at beating the bloat fast,” says Ms. Koff. Her recommendation is to eat fruits such as watermelon, tangerine slices and strawberries; vegetables such as lettuce leaves and celery; and protein sources such as beans, which contrary to what most people believe, are actually high in water as well as providing needed protein and additional fiber.
Belly Fat Fighter #7: Belly Blaster Workout
“You know him from TV’s The Biggest Loser and the Fat Chef, he has transformed the bellies of thousands of women,” says Dr. Oz as he introduces fitness expert Brett Hoebel who tells viewers that they too can lose their belly fat by knowing two secrets of belly fat loss:
“Crunches are not enough—that’s a big misnomer,” says Brett Hoebel. “You gotta do exercises to burn the fat off your stomach—that’s number one. Number two is that you have to attack the abs from different angles,” he explains telling viewers that burning calories and attacking the abs with exercises that work those abdominal muscles from multiple angles will rid the body of belly fat and reveal your six-pack ab.
