Lose 15 pounds in 1 Week with the 5 Bite Diet Plan

15 pounds weight loss

Would you like to lose 15 pounds in just one week and then continue to lose even more weight over the long term? That’s what one doctor promises on The Dr. Oz Show with a new diet plan that he designed based on his observations on how eating like a gastric surgery patient can help you lose weight - but without the surgery.

"The secret to losing 15 pounds in one week is eating anything that you want, but just 5 bites a meal,” says Dr. Oz as he introduces his special guest Dr. Alwin Lewis, the creator of “The 5-Bite Diet” plan. Dr. Lewis tells viewers that his diet plan originates from the 5 bites per meal regimen of gastric bypass patients. When he tried the diet on himself, and then on his obese and overweight patients, he found that both he and they lost significant amounts of weight. See why Gastric Bypass surgery really works.

5 Bite Diet Plan in a Video Snapshot

“I’ve treated about 815 patients for weight loss. I have a total of 16,115 pounds lost. You don’t have to spend any extra money on food and you don’t even have to engage in a regular exercise routine. The 5 bite diet will absolutely get you to your goal whatever your goal might be,” promises Dr. Lewis.

THE 5 BITE DIET PLAN

So what does a 5 bite diet entail? As an example, Dr. Oz and Dr. Lewis showed viewers a sampling of what the meal plan for one day looks like for someone on a 5 bite diet:

Breakfast: A cup of black coffee and a multivitamin pill

Dr. Lewis explains that the reason for no food for breakfast is that he believes that since a person has not eaten since dinner the night before, that the body is now in a fasting mode upon waking up in the morning. He believes that by extending the fasting period just a few hours longer actually induces the body to consume even more abdominal fat right off as you start your day. The multivitamin is to ensure that you are not starving nutritionally.

Lunch: 5 bites of anything

One example shown on stage is a small hamburger divided into 5 bite-size pieces. Dr. Lewis tells viewers that to him 5 bites of a hamburger is an excellent choice because it provides protein with some nutrients and because it tastes good and is very satisfying to most taste buds.

“The key to any successful diet is that you are able to follow it, that you are taking in food that you enjoy,” says Dr. Lewis.

Dinner: 5 bites of anything

For dinner, Dr. Lewis provides 3 bites of macaroni and cheese with 2 bites of apple pie as being acceptable choices for his diet plan.

However, Dr. Oz appears not to be buying into the idea that people can follow this diet plan and still be healthy. Dr. Oz explains that to be healthy the body needs to take in specific nutrients such as iron, calcium, magnesium, protein, healthy fats, good carbohydrates, etc. all of which are derived from eating enough of the right kinds of food. Without any of these diet building blocks, he tells viewers that the human body will crumble and start falling down.

“You might be smaller, but it’s not the right way… not the healthy way. It’s not about the calories―it’s about the nutrients,” says Dr. Oz explaining his reasons for why he does not believe this diet is healthy.

Dr. Lewis counters Dr. Oz’s concerns by stating that he believes that people on his diet will not be nutritionally deficient because the body in his opinion stores enough of these nutrients throughout a month of eating foods this way.

“What I am giving patients―or people―is control. We all know how to gain weight. We know how to put on five pounds in a weekend. But what we don’t have is good control over how to lose that weight just as quickly, just as easily. What I am doing is giving patients that ability,” says Dr. Lewis.

While Dr. states that what he finds positive about the 5 bite diet is that it helps make people mindful of every bite they take in, he expresses concern that engaging in this kind of eating behavior will lead to nutritional problems.

“My concern with the 5 bite diet is that it’s a real temptation for unhealthy foods that throws our body out of balance. The real goal, I think, ought to be to be on a diet that will keep people healthy and skinny at the same time—not one or the other. I don’t want you counting anything―it’s the nutrients, not the calories or the bites,” recommends Dr. Oz.

However, if keeping track of calories or what you've eaten or what you plan to eat is something you want to do towards your weight loss, here is what Dr. Domenica M. Rubino--a representative of the Obesity Society--has to say on the latest word on diet tracking devices.

As an example of how to lose weight in a healthy way as recommended by Dr. Oz, here is a plan by Dr. Oz on how to lose up to 10 pounds in 2 weeks and a plan on how to lose that stubborn belly fat without fasting.

I weigh 140 and feel comfortable at 120. Recently in recovery from drug use I gained weight. Will this work for me! My clothes are not fitting well
I feel this will work for you. I have exceeded my goal of loosing 25-30 pounds and not I have recently ordered a total gym to tone up and stay slim and fit.
Hello Amber, Great job. I really needed this. Thanks. Could you please, answer a few questions? How many pounds have you lost exactly? How long did it take? Were you doing 5 bites morning, afternoon, evening? Total 15 bites? I hope you can reply soon. Thanks for being an inspiration
kiki I have lost 22 pounds it took about 3 weeks and I have been doing the 5 bite diet plan. and i have been having 15 bites a day.
Thank you!
you are welcome. what i am doing now is exercising. or i will be lol my mom just bought me and her a total gym. we are waiting for it to arrive. but now i am starting to loose weight by dancing. do you like to dance. i go on YouTube and look up just dance. i love the faster ones. if you want to try it then you will need to dance 1-2 hours in the beginning but after a week or two then you can dance for 3-4 hours. but you only want to boost up your dance time a half an hour every 3-4 days. but you can go with what you feel comfortable with. and also be sure to have fun. losing weight does not need to be boring. add a little Pzazz to it. lol have fun!
I am 59 kilograms and 155 centimeters I want to be very skinny by the March . How many meals should I eat a day . And is it okay if I excersise while doing the diet. Also if I stayed on this diet for 1-2 months will I be anaroxic? Or not. Please answer
ok you can eat 3 meals a day which equals 15 bites a day. you will need to cut back on soda, burgers, and other junk foods. and if you work really hard to meet your goal by march you will do it. mt total gym came in the mail today and i can not wait to exercise with it. you can exercise to. if you can not go to the gym or do not have a gym set you can do just dance on YouTube. it is the something as the real game. spend less time on the couch and more time getting up early having a healthy breakfast and going for a good long run or speed walk. if you have any more questions then all you need to do is ask.
this sounds like it will work, imma give it a try and throw my update up here. Is anyone still doing this?
go for it. it will work for you and yes people are still doing it but i have stopped doing it because i have lost a ton of weight.
Amber, what foods does your 15 bites consist of? and what do you do to cut cravings when you get them?
Well I stopped the 5 bite diet plan but my diet was made up of any food I wanted just as long as I only had 5 bites of that food. and I went for walks or listened to my favorite music to get my mind off of food.
It sounds like a good plan for fast weight loss and I'm trying it.
I'm going to try this. I'd like to lose 44Ibs by the end of March. Wish me luck - I'll keep you posted
Cool you got this. good luck

Hi Kiki, I am starting this today. Today I weighed in at 177 I am 5"1 my goal is to lose 15 to 20 pounds in a month. I want to give this a true chance so I didn't set my goal to high. Once I lose my goal amount I will set another goal.
I would do it together with you but I have already achieved my goals and have lost all the weight I want. but I will cheer for u
@amber did you gain any of that weight back?
I think it will take you about 2-3 weeks to achieve your goal but that all depends on if you stick with it or not
Im starting this diet tomorrow Im going to weight myself everyday and check in everyday cw267
Hi There I want to do this diet. I will be going to the gym 3 times a week when i start this diet focussing more on weights. i wanted to know if i can survive without taking ANY PILL. i would be okay with drinking a multi vitamin shake or so, i just cant take pills, would it work without the pill?
I know this article is old but reading the comments really helped me get started. I didn't follow this diet to the letter (I put cream/sweetner in my breakfast coffee) but I did follow the 1/3 cup rule and drank lots of water. I ate once a day and had 2/3C walnut spinach pesto pasta with a lentil dish. I weighed in at 174 on Sunday morning and this morning (Wednesday) I was 167.5. I did eat a huge salty dinner Saturday night so my starting weight is a bit skewed probably but I haven't been able to break 171 in a few months. Today I'm eating a bit more because I simply don't have enough energy and I'd like to do a few things today. This diet is great for shrinking your stomach and learning how to do deal with real hunger pangs.
I was looking for a way to loose over 35lb a year and fast. And so I'm just wondering if this "5 bite diet" plan actually works. So does it really work or mo?
it does really work but be sure to exercise.
Has anyone gained the weight they lost back quickly? I've lost 12 pounds so far and I'm shouting for 15 more. Just need to know if anyone gained weight back.
I have been fighting with my weight for years, I should be 100 lbs because I don't eat but once a day, I'm busy all the time I don't have time to breath let alone eat ease tell me what to do, I cant do this much longer ,I weigh 250 lbs I'm so done cry myself to sleep every night ever sense I went from fab to flab, I want to be solid again , I hate what I've become, I should have let the Dr's amputate my leg instead of choosing to be in a wheelchair for a year where I gained all my weight and all my muscle went to fat my choice was my choice but I didn't realize I would gain that much weight and now I can't get it off no matter what I do so please help me
Mary, you sure can do this. Why you dont try try 30 bites per meal first and then reduce by one bite daily or even weekly. You can get off that wheel chair. Why do i say that? Because you totally, totally can. You can be running a marathon by this time next year. yes, you! I dont know you but i certainly believe in you! Wanna go this together? Just say so
