Weight Loss Supplement Recall

According to the FDA, a weight loss supplement maker has just announced that they are recalling a popular fat fighting pill that the FDA found contains hidden ingredients that pose a health risk to dieters.

If you are among the many dieters who take weight loss supplements you will want to check the labels of those manufactured by SmartLipo 365. SmartLipo 365 recently announced a voluntary recall of their popular Smart Lipo products of which FDA labs recently detected non-labeled ingredients that include sibutramine, desmethylsibutramine, and phenolphthalein.

Sibutramine is commonly used as an appetite suppressant for weight loss. Sibutramine (brand name Meridia) and desmethylsibutramine (an analogue of Sibutramine) work by affecting the area in your brain that controls hunger and thereby provides a sense of fullness and satisfaction.

Due to earlier studies that demonstrated an increased risk of substantially increased blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients putting them at risk of having a heart attack or stroke, this weight loss ingredient was banned in the U.S. However, health authorities report there are companies that still add sibutramine to their diet products that can be bought online. In fact, a recent news report warned readers of at least one case of a teenager who was hospitalized after experiencing hallucinations from a weight loss drug that contained the same hidden ingredients as in the Smart Lipo weight loss products.

The other Smart Lipo ingredient to be concerned about is phenolphtalein, which although had been used in the past in OTC laxatives, was eventually outlawed in the U.S. due to studies that indicated that phenolphtalein could cause serious gastrointestinal disturbances, irregular heartbeat, and cancer with long-term use.

The recalled lots of Smart Lipo products include those with the following expiration dates on their label:
