Feel and Look Younger in Just 7 days with New Dr. Oz Anti-Aging Guide
“How many of you feel old before your time?” asks Dr. Oz as he introduces to viewers his latest anti-aging guide that he promises will jump start your energy and make you feel and look younger in just 7 days.
With Dr. Oz are some of his special guests from past episodes—Integrative Medicine expert Dr. Tasneem Bhatia, Nutritionist Heidi Skolnik and Dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie―who have new advice for helping you feel and look younger by boosting your energy with their 7-day energy solutions.
“Energy affects every single organ in our body, so this plan is going to take us day by day focusing on one organ at a time,” says Ms. Skolnik. “And by the end of the week, the cumulative effect should have you feeling good.”
“You can boost energy in 7 days,” agrees Dr. Tasneem Bhatia. “This is a plan that will really work.”
The following is a summary of the recommendations that you can start on today that these experts have helped Dr. Oz with in creating his ultimate 7-day anti-aging guide for 2014.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #1: Clean your gut with a prebiotic in the morning
“The gut is really command central. If the gut is not working properly then every other system is affected,” says Dr. Bhatia who tells viewers that when the gut and your other body systems are not working that this then causes an energy drain that will leave you chronically exhausted.
Dr. Bhatia’s anti-aging energy solution is to mix in a blender a nutritious prebiotic shake in the morning that consists of:
• 10 ounces of almond milk
• ½ cup of blueberries
• 1 medium banana
• 1 scoop of plant-based (such as hemp or rice) protein powder
• 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
“Prebiotics are similar to probiotics in that they are putting good bacteria back in the belly, but it’s a different type of bacteria,” says Dr. Bhatia who adds that for increasing your energy, this is a much better breakfast choice as opposed to a coffee and bagel, which she states actually zaps your energy levels.
According to a previous Dr. Oz episode, taking a prebiotic can help you lose belly fat.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #2: Sharpen your mental power with citrus
“Citrus…what it does is that there are phytonutrients in it and flavonoids that can actually help our brain’s efficiency,” says Ms. Skolnik. “So that you can think more clearly and have more mental acuity. It helps to retrieve and store information—it helps your memory. Additionally, citrus also helps reduce some stress hormones and that in of itself can give us more energy.”
Ms. Skolnik’s recommendation for incorporating citrus daily into our diet is to make eating citrus a part of every meal. For example: a grapefruit for breakfast; some lemon vinaigrette on your salad during lunch; and, limes squeezed over your dinner salmon. Another way to ensure that you are getting citrus throughout the day is to use a special water bottle called a “citrus infuser” that holds a half of an orange, lemon or lime in its bottom section and allow its juice to infuse with added water.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #3: Open your airways with flaxseed
According to Dr. Oz, opening up your airways and getting more oxygen to all of your organs is another way to increase your energy level. Ms. Skolnik tells viewers that the best way to do that is through exercise, but that exercise supplemented with nutrition is even more effective.
Ms. Skolnik’s nutritional recommendation is to take 1 -2 tablespoons of flaxseed per day as a protein breading in your meals or added to a smoothie. Flaxseed is full of magnesium, which she explains helps the muscles used in breathing to relax and open your airways.
Taking flaxseed also has the benefit of preventing a wheat belly from developing on your body.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #4: Detoxify your liver with dandelion coffee
“If your liver is not strong, it cannot detoxify your body,” says Dr. Oz who turns to Tim Ferriss, author of the book “The 4-Hour Body” for his liver detoxifying advice. Mr. Ferriss tells viewers that you can re-energize and detoxify your liver in one very simple way—by replacing your normal coffee with dandelion coffee.
Dandelion coffee is available in health food stores in a dry ground powder of which you add 1-2 tablespoons to the filter of your coffee maker and brew it just like instant coffee.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #5: Boost your blood with meat
“Boosting your blood is all about iron. Iron is one of the leading nutritional deficiencies in the United States and the most common cause of anemia—which really leaves you feeling exhausted and tired,” says Dr. Bhatia.
Dr. Bhatia’s recommendation for boosting your blood is to get your iron from beef, poultry and fish, which are much better sources of iron than iron from plant-based food sources.
“Ideally, you want to try to get some of this in every meal,” says Dr. Bhatia who tells viewers that with that in mind you should only take small amounts of meat at a time during a meal—smaller than ½ the size of the palm of your hand to avoid overeating meat.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #6: Bring back the glow with coconut oil
“Coconut oil…it’s a healthy fat, it provides energy immediately to our brain, to our liver. It’s also one the best natural ingredients in terms of moisturizing your body, moisturizing your hair—it’s just something that’s awesome for you,” says Dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie.
Her recommendation for taking coconut oil to bring back a healthy glow to your skin is to take coconut oil both internally and externally. You can do this by taking 2 tablespoons a day using 1 tablespoon for cooking and the other tablespoon applied topically as a moisturizer that not only can go on the skin, but in the hair and on the nails too.
Coconut oil has also long been promoted by Dr. Oz as the one healthy fat you eat to lose fat.
Anti-Aging Solution Day #7: Take an Epsom Salt bath
“I saved for last, the one I personally use the most,” says Dr. Oz who tells viewers that after re-energizing all week long, you need to relax and rejuvenate your heart. Dr. Oz’s recommendation for this is an Epson Salt bath.
“Here’s how it works. It reduces tension in the body and the magnesium actually absorbs through the skin. As it goes through the skin it gets to the blood vessels and it relaxes those blood vessels…it will help you prepare for a very restful night of sleep,” says Dr. Oz.
His recommendation for taking an Epsom Salt bath is to add 1 cup of Epsom salt and 1 cup of baking soda to your bath water 30 minutes before you go to bed.
An added benefit of an Epsom Salt bath is that it turns out to be a quick trick to help you get into your skinny jeans before going to a party.
