3 Coffee Choices that Won't Add Inches to Your Waist
Dr. Oz reveals his smart coffee choices from Starbucks, McDonalds and Dunkin’ Donuts that will appease your cravings without adding inches to your waist.
Do find it difficult to bypass a Barnes and Noble coffee booth or skip going to Starbuck’s with friends because you know that venti-sized café mocha is going to add inches to your waist? Fear not as Dr. Oz reveals his smart coffee choices from Starbucks, McDonalds and Dunkin’ Donuts that will appease your cravings without adding inches to your waist.
“The coffee shop is where you make a decision that can add inches to your waist,” says Dr. Oz after going undercover at a local New York Starbucks to see what coffee beverage choices people were making that he believes can be improved upon by being smart about what goes into your order.
“Today I’ve got the best coffee drinks that will help you lose weight,” says Dr. Oz as he starts his coffee choice recommendations by taking a candid look at what people order and what he recommends as his “Oz Swap” for a lighter and healthier coffee beverage.
Oz Coffee Order Swap #1: Instead of ordering from Starbucks their Venti Caramel Frappuccino with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle that contains a whopping 510 calories and 17 grams of fat, ask that the order be modified without the whipped cream and caramel drizzle to get a beverage that contains only 385 calories and 5 grams of fat.
“The whipped cream is basically ‘candy on top’,” says Dr. Oz who tells viewers that the coffee still tastes basically the same without the whipped cream and that over a year’s time can add up to avoiding an extra 13 pounds of potential weight gained.
Oz Coffee Order Swap #2: Rather than cave in to your cravings by ordering a Large French Vanilla Latte with 3 extra pumps of vanilla and added whip cream from McDonalds (420 calories and 14 grams of fat) lighten your coffee beverage load with a recommended Oz Swap of changing your order to a Large French Vanilla Iced Coffee that is only 240 calories with 9 grams of fat.
“You get to control how much milk you put in your drink instead of the person behind the counter,” says Dr. Oz who adds that by using his recommended Oz Swap, you can save yourself from a potential extra 19 pounds of fat in a year.
Oz Coffee Order Swap #3: An Extra-Large Peppermint Mocha Coffee with added whip cream from Dunkin’ Donuts gives you not only a great tasting drink to get you started in the morning, but enough calories to replace nearly an entire meal at 450 calories and 16 grams of fat. Dr. Oz’s recommended Oz swap is to switch from extra-large to large, and add cream rather than whipped cream to your drink that reduces your calorie count to 360 calories and 12 grams of fat.
Dr. Oz adds that going one size smaller in your drink order can make a big difference in your calories, but not really affect how much you enjoy your drink because your taste buds derive the most pleasure from just the first few sips of your coffee in comparison to when you get to the bottom of the cup.
To help viewers decide which coffee to order, Dr. Oz provides a printable coffee card on his website to carry in your purse or wallet that reminds you which choices you can make that can make a difference to your health.
