The premise of Dr. Hyman’s message to viewers is that obesity epidemic in America is due to the fact that Americans today are addicted to food. And who’s to blame? “The food industry,” states Dr. Hyman who points out that it is the food industry that has nurtured our addiction to sugar calories and flour calories, which he tells viewers are different from the calories that come naturally in food. These sugar and flour calories he believes have altered our brain chemistry so that it’s not our love of food that causes us to eat too much, but our addiction to food that drives obesity.

The combo of Konjac Root and seaweed is so effective at absorbing liquid that it will quickly gel in a glass if it sits too long before drinking. Dr. Hyman explains that this fast acting fiber supplement slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, which then prevents an insulin spike.

Sugar Detox Step #2: Drink your breakfast instead of eating it

By drinking your breakfast rather than eating it, Dr. Hyman tells viewers that this will speed up your metabolism and give your body the kick start it needs to begin the fat burning process right away. His recommendation is to drink one of his morning shake recipes from his book of which one is listed below consisting of the following ingredients and directions for preparing:

1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries
1/2 cup frozen cranberries
1/4 lemon with rind (optional)
1 tbsp. almond butter
1 tbsp. pumpkin seeds
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 tbsp. hemp seeds
2 walnuts
1/4 avocado
1/2 tbsp. coconut butter
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup water

Directions

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth, about 2 minutes. If shake is too thick, add more water until you reach a thick, but drinkable consistency. Drink right away.

Sugar Detox Step #3: Eat meals that boost detoxification

The good news about eating meals that boost detoxification is that they are affordable, healthy, and you can have as much as you want without having to count calories.

According to Dr. Hyman, these detox foods include those that make sense like lean meats such as chicken, fish, turkey and shrimp; good sources of protein such as tofu and legumes; and, non-starchy colorful vegetables such as leafy greens and bell peppers.

“When you eat the right foods, here’s what happens―your body will naturally self-regulate.
