Stroke is one of those diseases most people think will never happen to them. They see themselves as too young, too fit, or too busy to be at risk for a stroke. But stroke can strike anywhere. The facts are sobering:

  • Every 45 seconds, someone in the United States suffers a stroke.

  • 162,000 Americans will die this year from stroke.

  • Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term adult disability

  • Stroke can happen at any age, regardless of family history

"Everyone is at risk," said Pierre Fayad, M.D., medical director of the stroke team at The Nebraska Medical Center and Reynolds Centennial Professor
