Congress, Bush Need To 'Come Together' On SCHIP
State Children's Health Insurance Program
Democrats "deserve credit forscoring some impressive legislative victories" in the 2007Congress -- "including the largest increase in funding forveterans, health care" and other areas -- "especially witha president who rarely lifted a finger in urging his Republicancolleagues to buckle up and work with the new majority," DonnaBrazile, a nationally syndicated columnist and political commentator, writes in a Washington Times opinion piece.
However,Congress and the White House "need to come together" toreach a compromise on legislation to reauthorize and expand SCHIP, aswell as other important issues, Brazile writes. She adds, "Let'shope that children's health care will be among their top prioritiesupon their return to Capitol Hill after the holidays." Brazileconcludes that Congress and the White House in 2008 need to be"prepared to actually make it a better legislative year than2007" (Brazile, Washington Times, 1/7).
