Holt Calls For Passage Of Mental Health Parity Legislation

Rep. RushHolt (D-N.J.) on Thursday after a roundtable discussion with mental healthadvocates at the Carrier Clinic in New Jersey called for congressional approvalof a bill (HR 1424) that would require insurers to provide equalcoverage for physical and mental care, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. During the paneldiscussion, participants addressed the economic and social costs associatedwith mental health.


Holt said, "New Jersey already requires this parity, but extending thislaw across the nation is important for getting the mentally ill the treatment they need, increasing productivity, andkeeping families together" (Newark Star-Ledger, 12/2).
