Overweight people are offered dozens of options and advices on how to loose weight, but it's still a question which program or advice is the best. This research suggests that the more overweight a women is, the more exercise she needs.

The research also says that the current recommendation of 30 minutes a day, or 150 minutes a week of exercising is not enough for loosing weight and maintaining the results.

Out of 553 responders 74 percent believed that yes, writing a food diary can improve weight loss. Now a new study, released by Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research shows that food diary not only improves weight loss, but doubles the amount that we can lose weight.

Employer-sponsored programs for weight loss are at least partially effective at helping workers take off extra pounds, according to a new review of recent studies.

“For people who participate in them, worksite-based programs do tend to result in weight loss,” said co-author Michael Benedict, M.D. Intensity matters, he found. “The programs that incorporated face-to-face contact more than once a month appeared to be more effective than other programs.”

In the first study of its kind, using sophisticated methods to measure body composition, the nationally known commercial weight loss program, Weight Watchers, was compared to gym membership programs to find out which method wins in the game of good health. A University of Missouri researcher examined the real-life experiences of participants to determine which program helps people lose pounds, reduce body fat and gain health benefits. The answer is that both have pros and cons and that a combination of the two produces the best results.

A little shove from the workplace may actually be the ticket to weight loss, a new review of studies from US show.

According to Michael Benedict, MD, and colleagues at UC, employer-based programs for weight loss are modestly effective at helping workers take off extra pounds.

“Worksite-based programs do tend to result in weight loss for the people that participate in them,” says Benedict, co-author of the study and researcher in the department of internal medicine.

The review appears in the July-August issue of the American Journal of Health Promotion.

Merck's Weight Loss Trial Reports Success, Side Effects

Merck has reported both positive and negative results from its pivotal trial showing that patients taking Taranabant significantly loose weight, but they also suffer from adverse side effects.

Merck conducted a pivotal trial including 2500 patients. The trial lasted a year and included regular exercising and diet. Patients taking 2mg dose lost 14.5 pounds (6.6 kg) in average, compared to 5.7 pounds of those taking a placebo. Taranabant taking patients weighed 4% less than those taking a placebo just 36 weeks after trial start.
