Changing The Face Of Wrinkle Treatment

With nearly 10 million minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures conducted in 2007, today's population is in search of alternatives to treat their wrinkles without having to go under the knife.

For over the past 15 years, doctors used traditional CO2 lasers to change the surface and appearance of the skin. However, these lasers are riddled with problems including permanent loss of pigment, scarring, prolonged redness and healing and a potential for an unnatural waxy appearance.

Now, there is a new medical technology which treats lines and wrinkles in one session without all of the hassles associated with traditional CO2 lasers. It's called the "Fraxel re:pair" which is the latest advancement in CO2 lasers.

"With a traditional CO2 laser, a laser beam treats 100% of the skin," reports Dr. Kimberly Finder, Director and Founder of The Face Place in San Antonio. "The new Fraxel re:pair is revolutionary in that microscopic beams hit only a portion of the skin which creates columns of laser treated skin surrounded by normal skin. This advancement will take aged and weathered skin and create a rejuvenated look."

"This new device promotes stimulation of collagen. Thus, individuals continue to see improvement, even weeks after treatment," said Finder.

In addition to treating wrinkles, the Fraxel repair will tighten the skin on the face and neck. Many women apply sunscreen on their face but neglect to utilize sunscreen on their neck. As a result, these women have necks that look ten years older than their face. Other uses include treating sun damaged and dark pigmented skin and eliminating acne scars. With over 20 million Americans who have acne badly enough that it causes scars, acne sufferers will no longer have to endure the embarrassment of the unsightly appearance that their acne leaves behind.
