Alcohol Consumption In Lambton County Increases

When it comes to the drinking habits of Lambton County residents, males are consuming more alcohol than their provincial counterparts.

Alcohol Consumption in Lambton County: A Community Profile, a report released by the County of Lambton Community Health Services Department, found a sharp increase in the number of male drinkers involved in binge drinking, defined as consuming five or more drinks on a single occasion.

Data collected from two sources, the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) and Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS), showed a spike of nearly 10% in alcohol consumption habits of males over a two-year period. In 2005, 39.1% of males surveyed had five or more drinks on a single occasion 12 or more times per year compared to 29.8% of males in 2003. The provincial average (2005) was 30.2%.
