Tips To Make Quitting Smoking Easier

A total of 334 Sarnia-Lambton smokers are among the more than 26,000 Ontarians who have accepted the challenge and are Driven to Quit smoking.

Last year, 236 local residents participated in the provincial quit-smoking contest. In order to qualify for prizes, including a brand new car, smokers must remain smoke-free for the entire month of March.

Cathy Powell, Health Promotion with County of Lambton Community Health Services Department, says "Quitting is tough and takes energy. It takes most people a few tries to achieve success, so don't give up."

She adds, "Handling the craving for nicotine is huge. It's highly addictive and increases the levels of chemicals in the brain that regulate mood, attention and memory. Avoiding a craving is more difficult than people think."
