As England Goes Smokefree, Wales Achieves 99% Compliance

As England goes smoke free, the first figures on compliance with the ban in Wales have been revealed.

The Welsh Assembly Government figures show that local authorities in Wales have reported that 99 per cent of businesses and vehicles inspected during April complied with the smoke-free requirements of the legislation.


The figures up to the end of April also show that no fixed penalties have been issued.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Jewell, said that the figures show the hard work by the Assembly Government and local authorities to raise awareness of the ban has paid off.
