"We want Floridians wishing to quit smoking to have the best resources to do so," DOH Secretary and Surgeon General, Ana M. Viamonte Ros, M.D., M.P.H., said. "The Florida Quit-For-Life line is free, effective and can help save lives."

Two public service announcements (PSA), one in Spanish and one in English are airing on radio targeting 18-34 year olds. The PSA spots are airing throughout Florida with an emphasis on the Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and Gainesville markets. The campaign is also aimed at pregnant smokers and their partners, as secondhand smoke can have serious and lifelong effects on babies.

The Florida Quit-For-Life-Line provides toll-free telephone-based tobacco use cessation service. Any person living in Florida can call the Quitline at 1-877-U-Can-Now (1-877-822-6669) for counseling sessions and self help materials in English and Spanish, as well as pharmacotherapy assistance. Pregnant Florida residents may contact their local health department for information on how to receive free Healthy Start support for becoming or staying smoke free.
