Customized Lip Augmentation Is Hot Topic
Leading experts in facial plastic surgery and ophthalmic plastic surgery convened to discuss the most popular trends in the field today.
One of the hottest topics at this year's conference was the increasing trend toward customized procedures such as lip augmentation. Among those lecturing on this new trend was New York Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Andrew Jacono, M.D. F.A.C.S, section Head of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, fellowship trained/dual board certified.
Dr. Jacono is at the forefront of customizable lip augmentation. His most recent published article, "A New Classification of Lip Zones to Customize Injectable Lip Augmentation," is featured in the January / February 2008 issue of Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery (Vol. 10, No. 1) and highlights his new classification system for placement of injectable fillers during lip augmentation.
In his January 19 lecture, "Graduated Anatomic Approach to Lip Augmentation," Dr. Jacono underscored the relevance of this exclusive new technique. This approach targets 15 different anatomic zones using injectable Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers (Juvederm and Restalyne) to deliver pouty, bee-stung lips that look completely natural vs. injecting only the lip line site (vermillion border) which is currently favored by plastic surgeons and dermatologists worldwide.
By injecting the Philtral columns (the two vertical lines above the lips), the center part of the cupid's bow to accentuate its curvature, and the outer half of the lips towards the corners to roll the lip out slightly, Dr. Jacono's technique delivers the pouty, sexy lips that have come to define classic beauty and youth.
Speaking to the convention of leading plastic surgeons, Dr. Jacono called his customized French Lips technique the future of lip augmentation. "Using this new technique, we can strategically refine, enlarge and reshape the lips to deliver a natural looking pout that is far more desirable than the overstuffed look which currently plagues a host of high profile women from Hollywood to Park Avenue."
Dr. Jacono stressed that full lips are becoming increasingly desirable. Thanks to its connotation of youth and beauty, lip augmentation procedures continue to skyrocket. "The lips are an essential component of facial symmetry and aesthetics," says Dr. Jacono. "Anthropometric studies have shown that wider and fuller lips in relation to facial width, as well as greater vermillion height are a mark of female attractiveness."
An expert on lip augmentation, Dr. Jacono offers his French Lips treatment at his New York practice -- it has become a highly popular lunchtime procedure with his high profile clientele, which includes models and television personalities. The cost is $1,000 and results last four to five months.
During the five-day conference, Dr. Jacono was also on hand to lecture on topics including short scar versus deep plain facelifts and the redistribution of facial fat during endoscopic mid facelifts to garner better results.
