HIV/AIDS more prevalent in African Americans

In Washington more African Americans are impacted by HIV/AIDS than other races. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that African Americans account for almost half (49 percent) of the nation's AIDS cases, while representing 13 percent of the U.S. population.


National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a nationwide effort to encourage African Americans across the United States to get educated, get tested, get involved and get treated for the disease.
