Newborn Screening Saves More Little Lives

Newborn screening saved more than 75 babies from serious illness, mental or physical disabilities and possibly death, according to the latest Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS) Newborn Screening report.

"The disorders Nebraska screens for occur in about one in every 800-1,000 births," said Julie Miller, Newborn Screening Program Manager. "Even after a baby is born, there are usually no signs or symptoms so parents can't tell whether or not their baby has a disorder
