Safe Holiday Feasting Ensures Very Merry Christmas
The Department of Health is reminding people to practice good food hygiene over the festive season to minimise the chance of food poisoning.
Director of Environmental Health Jim Dodds said the risk of food poisoning increased significantly over Christmas with warm temperatures creating the right conditions for food poisoning bacteria to grow rapidly.
"Entertaining and cooking for more people than normal can also increase the risk of food poisoning," he said.
"The average home kitchen wasn't designed to cook large volumes of food so proper food handling procedures should be followed to prevent illness.
