Am I Pregnant?

If you are unusually tuned into your body, you might begin to suspect that you are pregnant within the first few days of pregnancy. But most women don't suspect they are pregnant until they miss a period, and a few don't suspect or believe they are pregnant for months after conception.

Five very common signs of early pregnancy are as follows. You may experience all, some, or none of these symptoms, as pregnancy symptoms vary from woman to woman.

  • A missed period. Missing your period is the most clear-cut sign of pregnancy. But it is not definitive. Stress, excessive exercise, dieting, and other factors may cause irregular periods.
  • Frequent trips to the bathroom. Even before missing a period, many pregnant women report having to urinate more often. You may even have to get up during the night! This occurs after the embryo has implanted in the uterus and begins producing the pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone triggers frequent urination.
  • Fatigue. Utter exhaustion is a very early sign of pregnancy. Fatigue is a result of high levels of the hormone progesterone.
  • Morning (and noon and night!) sickness. Guess what? That queasy feeling isn't limited to mornings. Most pregnant women who experience morning sickness " which can begin 2 weeks to 2 months after conception " feel slightly nauseated at other times during the day. About half have vomiting, but very few have severe enough morning sickness to develop dehydration and malnutrition.
  • Sore (and enlarging) breasts. If you are pregnant, your breasts will probably become increasingly tender to the touch, similar to the way they feel before your period, only more so. Your nipples may also begin to darken and enlarge. Once your body grows accustomed to the increase in hormones, the pain will subside.

Other signs of pregnancy can include:

Implantation bleeding (spotting). Some women experience a light spotting or a brownish discharge. This spotting can occur at about the time the regular period would occur and can last for a few days to a few weeks.

Food cravings, constant hunger. Some women begin to crave certain foods, constantly feel that they are hungry, or may avoid foods that they previously liked.

Metallic taste in the mouth. Many women complain of a metallic taste in their mouth during the early stages of pregnancy.

Headaches and dizziness. Headaches and the feeling of lightheadedness and dizziness are common during early pregnancy and are the result of hormonal changes and changes in blood volume.

Cramping. Some women experience period-like cramps. If cramps are felt mainly on one side or are severe, it's important to contact your doctor immediately.

Yes. Although it is rare. I got pregnant with my little girl whilst on the pill, using condoms and with a coil in place! If you're concerned, please go see your doctor.
Hello, I've never used this site before so please don't be judgemental. I am 16 yrs old and ive been taking the birth control "trisprinta" for about a year now. But afew monthes ago i started having my period every day for a month strait. So I stopped taking it. About a month and a half ago me and my boyfriend had sex, while I was still bleeding, and he cam in me. Ever since I haven't had my period at all, I was supposed to get it 2 weeks ago, and I've been incredibly fatigued and I've been having strange mood swings and cravings, and I've been puking alot.. Also I've been getting headaches and my breasts have swelled alittle and are often sore. Is it possible that I'm pregnant? Even tho I was somewhat on my period at the time? Please help me.. **alexie
Alexie you sound pregnant. I would see your doc
I am 24 years old and my husband and I have been trying to have a baby for about a year. We have been together for 6 years. The 1st year I was on the pill to regulate my period because I would go 9 months with out one and then bleed for like a month straight. After the 1st year I went off the pill and we used the "pull out" method for the last 4 years and now we are trying to have a baby so we are not using any protection. Last year in February I went to an gynecologist to see why I had not started my period. She told me that I have PCOS ( Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and it would be very hard for me to conceive since I was not ovulating normally. I tried the ovulation test and either I was taking them wrong or I was just never ovulating. I had been having a normal period until July of this year and I didn't have it in July or August. But then I had it again in September. then in October it was gone again. In November just before Thanksgiving I had the brown discharge (like normal just before I starting my period). for about 4 days. It was not a lot but enough to notice. And I cramped as well like normal before my period. The problem is my period never came. And now it is December and I still have not had my period but I still continue to cramp from time to time. I have been more gassy lately but I have been gassy for a while. I always use the bathroom a lot any way so I can not tell if I am using more then normal. I don't get up in the middle of the night to go but I go a lot during the day. I find myself getting hungry more often and I can feel I guess muscle spasms in my lower stomach so well as my upper stomach. Also I noticed today that the left side of my stomach is very firm but not the right. I do not have a metallic taste or get headaches and my breasts are not sore. I have a craving for chocolate but that about it. some time I get nauseated but not that often and I never vomit I do have acid reflux but I am not having it as bad as i was before. The last couple of months I had it like everyday and I didn't even have to eat anything to get it. I had it so bad it would keep me up at night. And now I am having a problem sleeping. I can not go to sleep at night and do not want to get up in the morning but I feel tired a lot. I have taken test before and they have come back negative, so I have not bought a test this time because I am not sure if it is just the PCOS messing with me. Also I have noticed I am having sever mood swings. I go from happy to mad at the drop of a hat and I am crying at things I see on TV that i normally don't cry over. I don't have insurance so I can not go to the doctor to find out what the problem is. I want a baby so badly. I don't know if I am pregnant or not. Does anyone have any advice that could help me out? Am I having symptoms or am I not. I watch " I didn't know I was pregnant" a lot on TV and I don't want to be like those girls. I want to know because this would be my 1st. Is this all in my head?
Everyone with questions - please see a health care provider for your answers. Advice on the internet like this is not the way to go. My advice here is to see a doctor and find out if you are pregnant and what is causing your symptoms.
I THINK YOU ARE PREGNANT...THE TEST ONLY SHOW IF YOU ARE PREGNANT AFTER 3 WEEKS...I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST
As someone who was diagnosed with PCOS at a very young age, I would tend to think that you're just going through the normal PCOS business. But definitely see a doctor about it! My husband and I have decided to try for kids and my endocrinologist put me on Metformin ER (I reacted badly to the normal Metformin) which is supposedly helpful getting PCOS women to ovulate. We've only been trying for a few months, so I can't really say if it's been successful, but it's something you might want to discuss with your physician. There's a really great webforum for women with PCOS called soulcysters (I can't post links here, but you can google it). You might want to check it out. They can give you a lot of feedback about what they went through after diagnosis and throughout their pregnancy attempts. Best of luck (and don't stress out about it. PCOS is the number 1 cause for infertility in the US and luckily it's (relatively) treatable).
hi im 16and i had sex with my boyfriend (dont judge please) but he ejaculated in me about 3 or 4 days after my period which i know should of still been in the clear (yes it was accidental) but i am cramping bad not as bad as my normal pms cramps which usually dont start for another week i have 2 weeks till my next period and this is the first time ive had cramps this early ive also been very tired lately could i be pregnant? or am i just haveing abnormally early pms

I told my boyfriend and we started to plan things out and we figured things would be okay and that we just have to move around our plans... this morning I had my period. All the odds were against us but yeah... I guess there is some hope out there... there is a chance it doesn't mean you're pregnant.

Hi... Im 18 yrs old an have no children. I always thought that maybe i couldn't have kids cause I have been off of the birth control shot depo for 2 yrs now and always have unprotected sex with my boyfriend. I got my period Dec.10, 2011 an it went off Dec. 15, 2011 that night. I had sex unprotected about 7 days later on Dec. 22, 2011. It is now Jan. 6, 2012 and I feel alittle different not too much but enough to catch my attention. I went to the bathroom today and saw very light pinkish discharge when I wiped. I keep have thoughts and dreams of pregnancy and think it could be possible, should I take a pregnancy test or is it nothing to worry about? *Jackie

Please see a doctor for a blood test to see if you're pregnant. No one here can tell you for certain.

Again, you need to see a doctor if you miss your period and have a pregnancy test. You can also go to the local health department. This is not the place to diagnoses pregnancy.
were just tryna get answers so we won't make a big fool out of our selves before we get checked, if you're not okay with this just leave this website then. we know we should get checked but we;re just asking some questions.
I understand. But if you are missing your period, having pain, or any other symptoms, you would never be making a fool of yourself to get checked. by a doctor. It is always the best for you to do that, rather than even speculate. Many of the symptoms mentioned here could be pregnancy symptoms, as per the article. But even if it's stress or other, a health care provider can help to ensure you stay healthy. I hope that clarifies.
Hi, I had unprotected sex and im on the pill ....lately I've been using the bathroom a lot, sleeping longer than usual and everyday I have slight migraines ...
