Investigators found that treatment failure and mortality rates for community-acquired pneumonia were much higher when Spanish physicians failed to follow the latest antibiotic treatment guidelines in their initial selection of an appropriate drug, according to an article published in the second issue of the September 2005 American Thoracic Society's peer-reviewed American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
