Thirty mosquito samples have now tested positive for West Nile Virus infection in Chatham County. These samples were collected by Chatham County Mosquito Control in seven locations including Garden City, Tybee Island, Midtown and Southside Savannah. All Chatham county residents should consider themselves at some level of risk rather than focus on the specific locations where infected mosquitoes have been found.

This level of infection in mosquitoes has not been detected since 2003, when Chatham County had 9 human cases of West Nile Virus and one death. So far this year, no humans have tested positive for the disease in Chatham County. In an effort to minimize the threat to humans, Mosquito Control has increased control operations and scheduled them for 6 nights each week. Residents will see Chatham County
