New Mexico Department Of Health Holding Measles Vaccination Clinic
Measles Vaccination Clinic
The New Mexico Department of Health is holding a measles vaccination clinic from at the Creative Arts Building at the EXPO New Mexico Fairgrounds.
The Department of Health confirmed Thursday that a 15 year-old girl from India has measles.
Those who need to attend the clinic should arrive at Gate 4 of the New Mexico Fairground off of San Pedro where they will be met by staff who will direct them to free parking and the clinic site.
"We want to encourage anyone who believes they may have been exposed to visit our clinic today," said Mack Sewell, state epidemiologist for the New Mexico Department of Health. "Anyone with questions about potential exposure or vaccinations should call their medical provider or the Poison Control and Drug Information Center."
The Poison Control and Drug Information Center can be reached toll free at 1-866-850-5893. Potentially exposed persons need to verify their immunization history. Anyone who has had measles or had two doses of the vaccination is protected against the disease, Swell said.
The patient has been admitted to a local hospital. The Department of Health is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to identify persons who may have been exposed via air flights and/or at airports.
"With the expertise of the New Mexico Department of Health, we are confident that anyone who has a health concern will have that concern addressed," said Elizabeth Marincola, president of Science Service, associated with the science fair.
