Middlesex London Launches West Nile Virus Program

West Nile Virus

The Middlesex-London Health Unit will kick off its 2007 West Nile Virus program on Thursday, May 10th, with a "behind the scenes" look at the surveillance process, from dipping for samples to laboratory analysis using microscopes linked to television monitors.

The launch will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Victoria Park, on Victoria Street in Strathroy, followed by a tour of the Health Unit's laboratory at the nearby Kenwick Mall (51 Front St. E).

Also included will be information on the Health Unit's "Dead Bird Reporting Line," including its participation in the new avian influenza surveillance program, as well as an outline of planned surveillance, larviciding, and control initiatives for 2007.

Representatives from the Middlesex-London Health Unit's Environmental Health and Communicable Disease teams, and Pestalto Environmental Heath Services, will also be in attendance.
