Panel submits stem cell guidelines to Health Ministry of India

A government panel has been set up to frame the stem cell guidelines in a bid to regulate the research activity in this emerging sector in India, has submitted the final guidelines to the Health Ministry.

"We have submitted the final guidelines on stem cell to the Health Ministry," said Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) Director General N K Gangly, heading the panel.

Government has set up a committee comprising of the experts from ICMR and the Department of Biotechnology in 2005 to frame National Guidelines for Stem Cell Research and Therapy in a bid to regulate the research activity in this emerging sector.

Ganguly has also said that they have identified the areas which have been more scientific and could provide therapy and cure to the masses.
