Sussex County Conducts Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance Program
The Sussex County Department of Health conducts human disease surveillance in order to monitor disease trends in the community, preserve public health and prevent the spread of disease.
The Division of Health Communicable Disease Nurses and the Epidemiologist work together to identify illness, investigate causes and ensure that prevention measures are applied to stop the further spread of infectious diseases in the community. Local surveillance efforts are coordinated with regional, state and federal efforts.
The Influenza-like Illness (ILI) Surveillance program is an active Surveillance system initiated to track Influenza-like Illness activity. The Sussex County Division of Health has been collecting Influenza-like Illness data for several years. Local data is analyzed and compared to state and federal data to determine statewide and national influenza activity.
