On World TB Day, marked every year on 24th March, the World Health Organization called for national and regional solidarity on the fight against TB, calling it a threat of national development in the South-East Asia Region. This Region continues to be a global TB hot spot. With 25% of the world's population, the Region is home to the largest numbers of TB patients anywhere in the world. TB continues to claim the lives of over half a million people in the Region every year, that is, one person dies from TB every minute.
