Southwest Washington residents are urged to take steps to protect themselves from the heat.

"Heat-related problems are preventable," said Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County Health Officer. "We are encouraging people to avoid or limit physical activity outdoors, take shelter in air-conditioned buildings, and to drink plenty of fluids. Elderly people and the very young are especially vulnerable during periods of intense or prolonged heat."

Cooling stations (air-conditioned places where people can go to cool off) will be established in some locations. For information on locations of cooling stations in Clark County, call Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency at (360) 737-1911 ext. 3779.
