Before heading into the great outdoors, the Kent County Health Department is reminding residents to take precautions to make this a safe and enjoyable summer.

With summer right around the corner, many are planning outdoor recreational activities-- all of which can present a variety of health and safety hazards.

"Summers are a great time in Michigan! While we encourage everyone to get out and enjoy everything West Michigan has to offer, we also want people to exercise caution when it comes to things like heat related conditions, food borne illnesses and West Nile Virus," said Cathy Raevsky, Kent County Health Department's Administrative Health Officer.
