Swimming Pool Safety Tips

Allegheny County Health Department is offering children and adults alike advice on how to enjoy swimming pools and stay away from danger this summer.


Thirteen County residents, including seven children and two seniors, drowned in swimming pools between 2000 and 2005. The children ranged from 6 to 16 years of age and included a white girl and six boys, four black and two white. The elderly victims were white males 73 and 88 years old.

The following precautions are recommended for residential as well as public swimming pools to reduce the risk not only of drownings but also injuries and infections:
