Examining Differences In Quality Of Care In Medicaid Managed Care, Commercial Health Plans
"Quality of Care in Medicaid Managed Care and Commercial Health Plans," Journal of the American Medical Association: Thestudy of 383 health plans compares quality-of-care data for within andbetween the Medicaid and commercial populations in three types ofmanaged care plans: Medicaid-only plans, commercial-only plans andMedicaid/commercial plans. Researchers find that Medicaid managed carebeneficiaries receive lower-quality care than the commercially insured.In addition, Medicaid beneficiaries experience no quality-of-caredifferences between Medicaid-only plans and commercial plans that alsoserve the Medicaid population, according to the study (Landon et al., JAMA, 10/10).
