Teen Pregnancy Prevention

The Coastal Health District is hosting a "Girl Empowerment Day" on May 2nd as part of the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

"Girls have a tremendous power over their futureas, and the decisions they make today can have a huge impact on whether or not that future is a positive one," says Cristina Gibson, Health Promotions Coordinator for the Coastal Health District.

Teens and Pregnancy Facts

Only 70% of teen mothers complete high school, and they're even less likely to go on to college. A child's chance of growing up in poverty is 9 times greater if he is born to an unmarried teen mother who doesn't complete high school. But teen pregnancy is only part of the picture. Girls need to lay the groundwork now for their total health
