Parents have a new tool to help them find quality child care in Kentucky.

Find Kentucky Kid Care is a toll-free phone number that links parents and caregivers of children to their area Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agencies. The Division of Child Care in the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) administers the toll-free line.

The phone number is (877) 316-3552.

"This is a direct line for parents in any part of the state to get information about child care facilities in their area," said Mark Washington, commissioner of the Department for Community Based Services, which oversees the Division of Child Care.

CHFS funds the toll-free phone line, which is the state's first hot line to offer a link to information on child care.

Based on their area code of origin, calls will be automatically routed to a local CCR&R. Only out-of-state calls are not directly transferred. Local office hours are generally 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

CCR&Rs provide referrals to families seeking child care, provide information on what to look for in quality early care and education services and increase provider access to training and professional development opportunities. They also help ensure that adequate, quality child care programs are available in each of the state's 15 Area Development Districts (ADDs).

"Local Child Care Resource and Referral agencies help parents take the guesswork out of choosing care," Washington said. "Child care providers play an important part in early childhood development, and it can be hard to have the information necessary to make a good decision. Whether a family is moving to a new part of the state or just considering a change in day care, this hot line ensures a much smoother study of the options."
