McHenry County Department of Health’s (MCDH) probable case of H1N1 (swine flu) has been confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As testing will now concentrate on hospitalized patients with severe illness, MCDH recommends residents practice good hygiene habits as the best defense against the H1N1 virus.

Wash your hands, cover your cough and stay home when you are ill so others won’t get sick are all important steps to reduce infection.

The Department is working with schools and community organizations to address their concerns and have provided educational material on prevention methods.

Downloadable, up-to-date information is available on the MCDH website and includes fact sheets, frequently asked questions (FAQs), posters and links to IDPH and CDC websites (in English and Spanish). Residents should look for an MCDH mailer this week to reinforce prevention messages.
