Resource For Bone, Mineral Disorders Released
The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR), the leading scientific organization for the study of bone diseases, announces the publication of the new seventh edition of the Primer on the Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Bone and Mineral Metabolism.
The new edition reflects the rapid and exciting advances in research and the clinical practice management of diseases such as osteoporosis, metastatic bone diseases and inherited bone diseases. Earlier editions of this widely used text have proven to be an indispensable and trusted resource for medical students, residents, physicians and scientists involved in bone and mineral diseases and disorders.
The Primer presents the most current findings on diagnosis, laboratory evaluation, treatment, clinical presentations, risk factors and bone density characteristics of osteoporosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, Paget's disease of bone, childhood rickets, renal osteodystrophy and metastatic bone disease. The increased use of reference images in this edition provides material on the differential diagnosis of rare diseases or bone cancers that may present with common symptoms.
"Our goal with the Seventh Edition of the Primer was to create a worldwide perspective on the diseases and disorders of bone," said Primer Editor-in-Chief, Clifford Rosen, M.D., Director of Clinical and Translational Research at Maine Medical Center. "This book is a 'must have' resource for all clinicians involved with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with bone diseases, especially osteoporosis, other metabolic bone diseases and bone cancer."
Bone disease reaches across many specialties and disciplines, and this new edition is an excellent overview to metabolic bone disease in a concise, current and usable format. Physicians and scientists in internal medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, primary care, geriatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, rheumatology, oncology and nephrology will benefit from the information provided here.
New material added to this edition includes:
* Abnormalities in Bone and Calcium Metabolism Following Burns
* Bone Cancer and Pain
* Vascular Calcification
* Bisphosphonate-Associated Osteonecrosis of the Jaw
* New International Drug Formulary covering the most widely used drugs in major regions of the world
The highly regarded Primer was first published in 1990, with subsequent editions released every three years to reflect progress and new research in the bone field.
