Atlantic County Provides Safe Place For Troubled Youth
Did you know that in Atlantic County there are as many as 57 "Safe Place" locations where children and teens dealing with abuse, neglect or serious family matters can go for help?
Atlantic County Youth Services will join in commemorating National Safe Place Week, March 15-21, 2009 to promote public awareness of the Safe Place program that has helped more than 100,000 young people in crisis since its creation in 1983.
Any youth in crisis can walk into one of the many area businesses that serve as Safe Place locations as identified by the diamond-shaped yellow and black Safe Place sign. These include libraries, fast food restaurants, convenience stores, fire and police stations, schools, government agencies, community centers, and more. In Atlantic County, the Safe Place program is operated by Atlantic County Youth Services.
Trained professionals respond to youth in crisis who seek assistance at any of the designated Safe Place locations to offer them counseling and a place to stay.
