Of the many natural treatment approaches to multiple sclerosis, the Wahls Protocol, which includes a diet and lifestyle program designed to support brain cell function, has attracted special attention in part because it was developed by a physician who has MS. Another reason is that many people who have tried it say it works, but not everyone agrees.

Although my first book on the Zone Diet was published 20 years ago, its beginnings started more than 40 years ago with the death of my father from a heart attack in 1973. Actually, it was his third heart attack with his first coming at age 39, surprising since he was world-class athlete, but maybe not since his brothers and my grandfather had all died in their early 50s from heart disease. At that point I realized I carried the same genes that would predispose me to an early death from heart disease. I realized I couldn’t change those genes, but I could possibility change their expression.
Have you ever wondered what viruses have invaded your body in the past or been frustrated that your doctor doesn’t know what is making you feel so poorly? I recently wrote a book on treating anxiety disorders, Anxiety Protocol, and asked a psychiatrist colleague to review the book. He stated he liked the book very much, and was in full agreement with the recommendation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as first-line treatment for anxiety disorders. However, he disagreed initially with my recommendation that prescription medication for anxiety disorder should be last resort treatment, and only then should be prescribed for severe cases or for psychotherapy-resistant cases. My colleague went on to opine that in moderate to severe cases, he saw the use of prescription medication “in association” with CBT, or as an adjunct to CBT, not as a “last resort.” Otherwise, he found contents of the book very useful.
I have been certified to work with the health insurance exchanges for two years in both Maryland and the state of Virginia. I have signed people up with 4 of the major companies in our area over the course of the past 2 years. I’ve had good and bad experiences with resolving client issues. This article will highlight a problem that I have found with one of the major companies in my area.
An article written by Teresa Tanoos eMaxHealth inspired me to write this article about GERD. It mentions a new option for treating gastro- esophageal reflux disease (GERD) . It is really not a new option, but it was not always widely available due to costs. (Being third tier many insurance platforms). The new option is generic Nexium. The food and drug administration (FDA) has approved the nation's first generic version for the treatment of GERD.

Health insurance open enrollment is over. Maybe? For the most part assisting people to sign up for insurance went smoothly except for a few problem cases and system glitches. Overall helping others attempt to solve their issues with the exchanges helped me to make the above decision not to purchase my health insurance through the exchange.
Last year was really difficult for many health insurance agents that enrolled consumers using the infamous Healthcare.gov. Although the site was much improved this year I decided well in advance to use a web broker portal to do my exchange enrollments this year.
Last year whenever I called the Federal Exchange on behalf of a client the Customer Service Representative (CSR) after listening to what the problem was, always said, “I can help you but before we continue let me give you the reference number for the call." This is a question I have asked myself many times since I became ACA certified back in the fall of 2013. Since last year was filled with so much confusion I will give all of the companies a pass on the chaos from last year. My opinion is based solely on my experience from this year. While I have not provided the names of the companies the following accounts will give you an overview of what to expect from a wide range of health insurance companies.
What comes to mind when you hear “benefits of exercise?” Most of us think something along the lines of; weight loss, lose the muffin top, tighten the glutes. Others may be aware of the general health benefits; decrease blood pressure, improve joint mobility, decrease resting heart rate. However, did you realize that you could also improve your mental alertness, body awareness and focus through a quality exercise program?
