CVS Encourages Customers to Join the 50 Million Pound Challenge

As part of their effort to help Americans improve their health, CVS/pharmacy is offering customers free copies of the 32-page “50 Million Pound Challenge Guide” in all retail locations. The guide, written by Dr. Ian Smith, author and medical/diet expert on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, offers tools and tips that can lead to better health, including guidance on weight loss, improved nutrition, and exercise.

The guide features a diet plan based on “The Fat Smash Diet”, an exercise plan, information on the nutritional content of foods, excerpts from Dr. Ian’s new book “Happy”, and charts for tracking weight loss success. It will also include coupons for healthy snacks at CVS/pharmacy and discounts on 50 Million Pound Challenge gear.

More information about the 50 Million Pound Challenge can be found at www.50millionpounds.com. Launched in April 2007, the free national health initiative encourages people to take control of their health by getting fit, losing excess weight, and turning back the toll of weight-related diseases that threaten nearly half of Americans.

Participants sign up online to report and track their progress. To date, members have lost 5,611,177 pounds.

Members can also join a Challenge Team or create one of their own. According to the website, those who have joined a Challenge Team have lost 25% more weight on average. The top team today is “Team Sybil” in Dallas TX. Members there have lost a total of 43,681 pounds.
