Top 10 Favorite Dairy-Free Alternatives For the Christmas Season and Beyond
Christmas is a very cheery season, but it can be disheartening to face the holiday baking without your favorite recipes just because you have a dairy allergy. We do have to make some adjustments, but thankfully there are alternatives available that make the transition to a dairy-free Christmas a little easier so that feelings of deprivation don’t set in.
1. So Delicious Coconut Eggnog
I am a die-hard eggnog fan so I went in search of a yummy, dairy-free eggnog as soon as eggnog hit the grocery store shelves. I tried both the Almond Breeze and So Delicious brands of dairy-free eggnog, and the So Delicious Coconut eggnog won hands down. It was too sweet for me straight from the carton so I would recommend watering it down a little with some unsweetened So Delicious coconut milk!
2. Nutiva Organic Palm Oil Shortening
This is my go-to butter substitute for all of my baking needs! The texture is smooth and creamy. Every cookie I have ever made with it has turned out crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside just like a cookie should! However, this shortening isn’t salted, so make sure you add extra salt to your recipe!
3. Nutiva Organic Buttery Coconut Oil
This flavored coconut oil tastes exactly like butter. It is great for seasoning dishes especially vegetables and topping your baked goods for that buttery goodness you’ve been missing!
4. Aroy-D Coconut Cream
You can treat this as if it were whipping cream from a carton. My relatives haven’t been able to tell the difference when I used it as a substitute in mashed potatoes, whipped cream, and to enrich my hot chocolate.
5. So Delicious Coconut milk
I have found unsweetened coconut milk from the So Delicious brand to be the best dairy-free substitute for recipes due to its consistency. I have used it successfully in pancakes and muffins!

I love to use the unsweetened coconut yogurt from the So Delicious brand in my gluten and dairy-free pancakes. If you don’t mind the sugar, they have fruit flavors available in cup serving size containers that are delicious as well!

It is a small miracle that my Dad gave up cream in his coffee, but he swears by this creamer. If you have encountered the same struggle, I would encourage you to try it. Another dairy-free alternative I like in my tea/coffee is rice milk.

The cashew ice cream is so rich and creamy you honestly can’t tell that it isn’t real dairy! My favorite flavor from So Delicious is salted caramel! It is so good you can’t help but sigh and roll your eyes a little!
10. Almond Milk
I use almond milk to make all of my smoothies. I prefer it in recipes in which I do not want an obvious flavor to be a distraction. My favorite brand is Blue Diamond in the unsweetened, original flavor.
