How To Treat Yourself To An All Natural Spa Night At Home
Sometimes all we want is a little pampering and space to breathe. There is no better way to do this then by treating yourself to a spa night at home utilizing all natural ingredients and methods that you can trust.
There are many scientifically proven health benefits of music. Instrumental songs are a form of relaxation therapy. Compile your favorite instrumental artists and allow your mind to drift into a blissfully empty state. Some of my favorites include Yiruma, Secret Garden, Ludovico Einaudi, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Camille Saint-Saens, Andre Rieu, Jennifer Thomas, Vivaldi, 2 Cellos, Beethoven, Chopin, and The Piano Guys.
Light A Candle
Did you know that most candles are loaded with toxic chemicals that we breathe after we light them? Some fragrances contain thousands of toxic, endocrine disrupting chemicals. To add to the list of candle travesties, many wicks contain lead.
My favorite candles from the Aromatherapy Company are friendly to your body and the environment. They are soy-based and scented with essential oils. All candles from the Aromatherapy Company are crafted in New Zealand.
One of the many great health benefits of dry brushing is the stimulation of your lymphatic system. This process activates circulation and detoxification. You can read more about it in this informative article.
Homemade Pore Cleansing Mask
There are dozens of pore cleansing mask options available on social media, but the simplest I have come across has been this one because it has only 2 ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard: activated charcoal capsules and non-toxic white glue.
You simply mix 2 capsules of activated charcoal together in a container with 2 Tbsp. of non-toxic white glue. To open your pores, it would be best to wash your face with a hot washcloth first. You apply the mask to your T-zone (forehead, nose, inner cheeks, and chin) and let it dry for 5 minutes or more. Then you can start to peel it off and remove a lot of junk from your skin in the process.
Be sure to hydrate your skin. There are loads of luxurious facial mask recipes online that you can tweak to make your own all natural version. Wash your face with a cold washcloth to tighten your pores when you are finished.
This is an obvious choice, but there are several steps you can take to make yourself feel more pampered. A couple drops of essential oil gives you an aromatherapy session while you take your bath. I like to choose essential oils with stress-relieving benefits like lavender or rose oil. Dump several cups of Epsom salts into your bathwater while you’re at it. These will give you a relaxing dose of magnesium as well as many other health benefits. It doesn’t hurt to sip on your favorite herbal tea while taking your bath for the ultimate relaxing experience.
Citrus and Mint Body Wash
My favorite non-toxic body wash is by Puracy. The light, citrusy scent is derived from essential oils. It will leave your skin feeling silky and soft.
Homemade Exfoliating Sugar Scrub
There are many homemade exfoliating sugar scrub recipes available online. Sugar scrubs make great gifts and serve as a nice way to pamper your skin on spa night. I would recommend buying the raw, granulated cane sugar because it is unbleached and will have the most health benefits. I’ve seen it priced reasonably at Walmart for a large container. Other common ingredients in sugar scrubs include coconut oil, coffee grounds, and essential oils. The sky is the limit so get creative!
This is optional depending on whether or not you like the idea of dye-derived nail polish or not. However, I have come across a brand that is as non-toxic as nail polish gets. The brand is Square Hue, and it is free of the 7 toxic chemicals commonly found in nail polish. I reviewed all the ingredients personally on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Database, and I was very impressed by the integrity of this brand. I personally have experienced great results and no adverse effects unlike commercialized nail polish. The colors are gorgeous too.
All of the options I mentioned are friendly to your budget and your body by cutting out unnecessary and harmful endocrine-disrupting chemicals commonly found in commercial skin care products and spa treatments. Have fun being flexible and getting creative with your spa night. I hope these ideas inspire you to plan a relaxing evening!
