The most delicious vegan (or vegetarian) smoothie recipe ever made combines the usual ingredients with natural, unsweetened peanut butter or almond butter, adding valuable protein.

This smoothie recipe combines both, with the blueberries resembling the 'jam'.

The recipe can either be vegan with the use of coconut milk, or vegetarian, with the use of yogurt.

Natural peanut butter is used in this recipe. Literally, natural peanut butter is ground up peanuts. Commercially packaged peanut butter, on the other hand, contains presevatives and almost always added sugar. No one needs sugar - especially kids. And they definitely won't miss it either. The natural sweetness of the bananas and blueberries will be enough.

Using natural peanut butter is definitely different than using commercially-made. You will have to stir it from the bottom almost every time you use it. The natural oils will migrate to the top of the container and the bottom of the container will contain the much thicker 'butter' part of mixture.

If there are concerns of peanut allergies, almond butter is a great substitute and will also provide the necessary protein.

Here is the Recipe:
Yummy Peanut Butter, Banana, Blueberry Smoothie
(serves 2- 4)

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
2 bananas
1 cup coconut milk (or plain yogurt)
1 cup water
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
handful of ice
1 tsp flax seed oil
1/4 cup chia seeds

Combine all ingredients except chia seeds into a blender and blend well, for about a minute.
Add chia seeds and blend again for about 10 seconds.

Pour into glasses and serve. Leftovers can also be put into the fridge until the next day. Simply blend again for 10 seconds and serve.
