antibacterial foods that can kill gonorrhea, according to studies

The WHO says that more than 70 million people are infected with gonorrhea each year, and according to recent reports that some strains of gonorrhea had developed widespread resistance to ciprofloxacin, the antibiotic typically used to treat gonorrhea. So, knowing what antibacterial foods can kill gonorrhea has become all the more important.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae, also known as gonococci (plural), or gonococcus (singular), is a species of Gram-negative coffee bean-shaped diplococci bacteria responsible for the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea. Recently, healthline reported about the growing antibiotic resistant strains of gonorrhoea. But, scientific studies have unveiled that, certain antibacterial foods can kill gonorrhoea. The foods that are able to kill such bacteria have been tested against different strains of gram-negative bacteria and have been successful in inhibiting their proliferation because of their powerful antimicrobial coumpounds. The two antibacterial foods that can kill gonorrhea, according to studies are: Turmeric and garlic.

Scientists analyzed the molecular mechanism involved in the Neisseria gonorrhoeae induction of the proinflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and IL-8. Curcumin, an important constituent of turmeric, was shown to inhibit Neisseria gonorrhoeae -induced signaling, and the curcumin treatment of cells completely abolished the adherence of bacteria to cells in late infection, underlining the high potential of curcumin as an anti-microbial compound without cytotoxic side effects.

The way in which curcumin kills off bacteria is by damaging the bacterial membrane, and that activity has been shown against gram positive and gram negative type bacterias.

The composition of 19 garlic natural health products (NHPs) and fresh garlic extracts were determined, as was their antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. It was observed that 47% of the aqueous garlic NHP extracts exhibited activity against N. gonorrhoeae, only 16% of the aqueous extracts inhibited S. aureus or E. faecalis at all three timepoints.

The antimicrobial effect observed in garlic is due to its active constituents of garlic called alicin, which when tested against gran- negative and gran- positive bacterium.

Note that while turmeric has been reported to have anticancer properties and ease the symptoms of Lyme disease, garlic may help lower high blood pressure and will help you treat and prevent fungal infections. As it can be seen, there is a variety of health benefits as to why including garlic and turmeric to your diet is a good idea, but the fact that these antibacterial foods can kill gonorrhoea, and are affordable and can be used daily in cooking, is one more reason.
