Music Therapy is another alternative treatment for depression, because researchers at Bournemouth University and Queen’s University Belfast have found that music therapy can be a great help for children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional problems. Specifically, those aged 8-16 who received music therapy were found to have significantly improved self-esteem and significantly reduced depression compared with those who received treatment without music therapy. Young people aged 13 and older who received music therapy had improved communicative and interactive skills than those who received usual care options alone.
Music therapy also improved social functioning in all age groups.

Laughter Therapy

Not surprisingly, a study has revealed that laughter improves cognition, insomnia and depression. While, we all know how it feels good to have a good laugh, now you can also join a laughter therapy session as a means to speed your recovery process, and while at it you may meet other people who also are in need of a good laugh and forge lasting friendships. The effects of laughter therapy were observed to affect the Autonomic Nervous System, which in people suffering from depression has been found to be dysfunctional.

This can lead to a thinning of the neural network in this area, which contributes to depression.
