There are some old fast and hard rules about food for the diabetic patient when it comes to managing the disease. One ridiculous rule – the “fruit is too high is sugar” rule, has many diabetics fearing fruit. However, there are negative affects that come along with this thinking. Science backs up what Barbaro is putting down. A recent study shows an inverse relationship associating pancreatic cancer and fruit. The study suggests that increasing consumption of certain fruits (and vegetables) is the best way of reducing the risk of pancreatic cancer.

The study on the inverse effects of fruits and vegetables on the pancreatic cancer looked at the eating habits of more than 2,200 people over a 4-year period. Including 532 people who had already been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

In reviewing the eating habits of subjects who consumed at least five servings per day of "protective" vegetables a day was associated with a 55 percent reduced risk of pancreatic cancer, compared with eating two servings per day. However, high consumption of "protective" fruit and fruit juices, largely reduced the risk of pancreatic cancer by 28 percent. Increasing fruit and vegetable intake is typically recommended to help in the prevention of chronic disease, particularly diabetes and the hypertension and obesity associated with it.
