Today Is National Doctor's Day
Today is National Doctor's Day and it is a ady designated to recognize the contributions that doctors make to the American public. The American Board of Physician Specialists (ABPS) is celebrating by recognizing all physicians for their dedication to high-quality health care in the United States.
"There are many reasons a person chooses to dedicate their life to medicine," said Scott Barnes, D.O., FAAIM, president of the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc. (AAPS), the governing body of ABPS. "Primarily, most physicians enjoy the challenge and want to help people."
Today is a day to take note for those who have chosen this vocation in order to serve their fellowman understand the tremendous responsibility it entails.
“Hard work and sacrifice with years of study and training are what it takes to become a board-certified physician,” said William J. Carbone, CEO of AAPS and ABPS. "Doctor’s Day is a great occasion for all patients to express their continued appreciation to physicians for their compassion and dedication to patient care.”
Dr. Elmer Hess, a former president of the American Medical Association, once wrote: "There is no greater reward in our profession than the knowledge that God has entrusted us with the physical care of His people. The Almighty has reserved for Himself the power to create life, but He has assigned to a few of us the responsibility of keeping in good repair the bodies in which this life is sustained." Accordingly, reverence for human life and individual dignity is both the hallmark of a good physician and the key to truly beneficial advances in medicine.
The date of March 30th was chosen to celebrate Doctors’ Day because it is the anniversary of the day that anesthesia was first administered to a patient, also in Georgia, by Dr. Crawford W. Long in 1842. The very first Doctors’ Day in 1933 consisted of a few doctors’ wives putting together a luncheon for the local physicians in Winder Georgia, northeast of Atlanta.
National Doctor's Day was created to show appreciation to your doctors and Emaxhealth recognizes all of the hard work and research doctors do for us daily.
