Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a lasting consequence of traumatic ordeals that cause intense fear, helplessness, or horror and people are treating PTSD naturally. It is strongly suggested that people who experience PTSD symptoms avoid stimulants, such as caffeine from chocolate, coffee, black tea, colas as well as alcohol. Maintaining balanced blood sugar levels helps stabilize moods. People will need to smaller and frequent meals and try to avoid processed, refined, and simple sugars.

* GABA is an amino acid that is known to play a role in the physiology of anxiety.
* B-complex helps reduce anxiety associated with PTSD.
* Kava is an herb that is used widely for nervous anxiety, tension, agitation, and insomnia. Kava works in a similar way to prescription benzodiazepine drugs such as Xanax and Valium.
* Valerian is an herbal tranquilizer that is best known as a remedy for insomnia. It calms the nervous system, balances mood swings, and is not habit forming.
* Other calming herbs that are frequently recommended for anxiety include chamomile, hops, lemon balm, passion flower, skullcap, and suma.

Other Alternative PTSD Therapies

* Physical activity such as exercise is perhaps the safest and most effective method of managing stress.

* Biofeedback - Where a person is attached to an EEG machine and, by listening to the kind and amount of brain waves produced, learns to change them in ways that ultimately affect both behavior and feelings.

* Aromatherapy - Essential oils that are used for PTSD can include; bergamot, cypress, geranium, jasmine, lavender, melissa, neroli, rose, sandalwood, ylang-ylang.

* Bodywork - Massage therapy, shiatsu, and other forms of bodywork can relax muscle tension, relieve stress, and improve sleep.

* Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which requires one to make several sets of side-to-side eye movements while recalling a traumatic incident, seems to help reduce PTSD symptoms.

* Stress-Reduction Techniques - Mind/body breathing exercises, physical exercise, yoga, tai chi, self-hypnosis, massage, meditation, guided imagery, and biofeedback are just some of the stress reduction techniques also used for relieving anxiety.



Thank you for this valuable and simple way of treating PTSD. I survived a severe accident where I was read-ended. Multiple physical injuries, Closed head injury , and the PTSD have left me with a challenging life. Also I use Positive Affirmations to get me through each day.

Thank you this is helpful. I have suffered multiple yrs of physical mental and emotional abuse and my counselor diagnosed me with this based on the symptoms. I don't want to do pills as I don't know how they will affect my system, so treating this as naturally as I can is one of the safer bets. All the suggestion I will try to do.
I suffered a tragic accident that has left me physically and mentally scared. To deal with my PTS I was put on medications "that will stop the racing thoughts." Years have passed and I am now taking myself off the medication. I find it silly that pharmaceutical companies prefer to treat the symptoms, which address their business instead of addressing the underlying problem. Masking the problem by sedating me will not help me get better, it only allows the issue to build up causing anxiety, chest pains and more aggressive triggers. Keeping a clear head and working on rewiring your brain to accommodate the changes affecting your new circumstance needs to be the priority. And for some people this can't be achieved with the marvel of modern chemistry. I have definitely found that exercise, meditation, valerian and chamomile teas help keep me in a balanced anxiety free state. I definitely found this to be an excellent read and will look into the diet aspects mentioned here. Again for anyone suffering from anxiety, chest pain and panic attacks, I HIGHLY recommend you look into stocking your shelves with chamomile and valerian root teas. Very effective!

I have been ovalium for many years,also have severe PTSD,been using alcohol n weed for years,basically to block out memories/ flashbacks ,ov years of abuse,loss trau.a(ongoing) no matter wot I try,I carnt stop talking REALLY FAST ,walking FAST everything FAST,always on 911 emergancy,very embarissing!! As I'm just trying to move on,stopped bud n don't drink often but need to stop the fastness,been looking at kava kava? Anyone know bout this? Can anyone help please ? : ))
