Try These Natural GERD Remedies If You're Experiencing Heartburn

Natural GERD Remedies

Have heartburn? You might want to stay away from over-the-counter medications like Prilosec or Prevacid. They've been linked with causing kidney problems. Try these holistically healthy remedies for heartburn and see if they help.

Have you ever felt a burning sensation in your throat or somewhere near your chest? You could be experiencing heartburn. Heartburn is a symptom of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), which affects 60 percent of adults every year. But only 20 to 30 percent of adults have GERD weekly. If you experience GERD often, it can lead to complications like esophageal cancer, laryngitis, and even erosion of your teeth enamel. GERD can also cause difficulty sleeping and can affect your productivity during the day.

If you're experiencing mild to moderate heartburn, your doctor may prescribe over-the-counter medications like Prilosec and Prevacid. More than likely, your doctor will advise you to take these medications daily for a long period of time. But the longer you take any medication, the higher your chances are of experiencing side effects associated with that medication. Prilosec and Prevacid have been linked with causing chronic kidney problems – and in some cases, renal failure.

Instead of taking heartburn pharmaceuticals, ask your doctor if you can try these holistically healthy remedies first to see if they make your symptoms go away. If they can't completely treat your GERD, then you can fall back to your doctor's prescription:
